Oilseeds are primarily grown for their edible oils which are used for foods and other applications. Higher oil yield crops command a greater price when traded as a commodity, so it is important to accurately measure both the oil and water content which affect this; both oil content and fatty acid composition are also important in seed breeding for producing the most valuable and healthiest crops. Oil yield is also dependent on the oil removed by crushing the seed, and the nutritional composition of the oilseed residue by-product has implications for its eventual end use as animal feed. All Oxford Instruments’ benchtop NMR systems provide fast, easy and accurate measurements for the oilseed industry.
